A Question

Given that this blog will no longer be based around Countdown (though I will review the next issue, and will be dealing with its fallout in other titles in future posts), should I keep this URL or get a new blog for future comics posts?

I would suggest a new name at least.

How about "I was 28 and a half when I refused to buy anymore issues of Countdown"

Well, I wish you'd continue to post about Countdown -- can't you borrow issues from some poor fool you know or something? Or maybe you could just post what you imagined in the issue -- that would be better than the real thing, most likely.

Well, I say change the url if you are changing the subject matter. I think its better to do it now then wait until your readership gets much larger. I remember reading that the guy at www.spideykicksbutt.com is not very happy with the name but he felt he was kind of stuck with it once his readership got beyond a certain point.

Rook, I could torrent it or something, but I'd feel bad about attacking a comic I've not paid for. I think that if I've bought the comic and it's not worth the money it deserves to be attacked. But to go out and deliberately seek out a comic I don't think is worth the cash, just to write about how bad it is, would veer into 'stop hitting yourself!' territory... (does that make sense? I've got a migraine at the moment and my thoughts aren't exactly coherent). I'd do it if someone were to Paypal me the $130 the remaining issues cost though ;)

Also, I've read enough issues of Countdown now that my imagination of what's in there would be too close to what's happening ("two pages of a scene from Robin or some other comic I don't read - check. Two pages of Jimmy Olsen looking confused - check. Plot - nope.")

Robert - I suspect the readership I've got is about as big as I'm going to get. I don't know how many people read comic blogs, but I average a few thousand unique visitors per month (mostly I get about 200 hits per day, the same few people checking in every day, but I get a big spike whenever a big site like WFG or TCJ link me). I doubt the audience for my writing about comics is much bigger than that, so I may actually already be stuck with the name by that way of thinking...

I vote you get a new name/url, if you're not planning to blog about Countdown anymore. False advertising and such.

andy's suggestion seems spot on

Great, now instead of reading your needless bitching about Countdown we can read you needlessly bitch about other stuff that's really exciting us...

Or you could just not read my blog, the same way I'm not going to read Countdown any more. You'll notice that I tend to 'bitch' less when I'm talking about competent comics though...

Also, I don't believe a single person in the world is even mildly excited by Countdown any more...

Well, I was on board longer than you. I thought you gave up way too early (except in retrospect... well played!)

But even I'm off now. Forget the quality of the comic itself, it's the constant threads spinning off into other comics or spinning in from other comics. It's shameful, mostly because it's as *well* planned as it is (even if there's some obvious fuck ups like Lightray appearing in Superman a month after he's been killed).

Point being, it's happened so often, it was obviously planned this way from the beginning, without telling anyone up front. And I ask you... how could ANY set of creators make such a cynical enterprise be of any reasonable quality? They can't. Period.

Well -- I'm all for you continuing to blog about comics, but... why keep the URL "dccountdown.blogspot.com?" I mean, there's other reasons you could give for the name, but all in all, so long as DC is running a comic called "Countdown," it just seems silly for the blog to be "Dccountdown" and not talk about Countdown.

Hey Rachel...
Main reason I'm keeping it at the moment is because so many people have linked to this URL, and some of them don't want to mess about with changing their blogrolls...
